85th Infantry Division in WWII, Framed

The division was activated on the 15th of May, 1942 at Fort Shelby, MS.

The division disembarked at Casablanca, French Morocco on Jan 2, 1944 and moved to Port aux Poules by Feb for amphibious training before entering the Italian Campaign.

The division took up active combat along the Gustav Line (Winter Line) on 10 April and served throughout the rest of the campaign.  The division participated in the final push of the campaign at the Gothic Line.

The division secured the area around Bologna after formal resistance ceased.

The division returned to the United States and was deactivated at Fort Patrick Henry, Virginia on 25 August 1045.
